Wildlife and conservation volunteering abroad
Eco-volontaire is a free directory of 136 carefully selected volunteer projects dedicated to biodiversity, across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Oceania. Since 2009, we have vetted each partner organisation (local NGOs, associations or specialised volunteering agencies) for its ethics and its real impact on nature.
What you can do:
– Care for rescued animals in wildlife sanctuaries and rehabilitation centres.
– Protect sea turtles, coral reefs and marine life, with projects for divers and non-divers.
– Join citizen science expeditions to study snow leopards, bonobos, elephants, whale sharks or dolphins.
– Restore forests and ecosystems, or learn agroecology on organic farms.
– Take part in palaeontology digs and nature guide training.
Who it’s for: most projects are open to volunteers aged 18 and over. Many welcome families, over-50s and students, and summer camps are available for teenagers. No scientific background is needed.
Languages: English on most projects, plus the local language and, for some projects, French.
Our ethics: we only list projects that respect animal welfare and work hand in hand with local communities and scientists. No captive breeding for tourism, no wildlife selfies.
How it works: contact the partner organisation directly through Eco-volontaire, free of charge. You book with them at their own price: using Eco-volontaire adds nothing to what you pay.
