Protection of Iceland’s North Coast
Our partner offers volunteering placements at various locations across Iceland, focusing on biodiversity conservation, peace-building and the promotion of volunteering. Siglufjörður is a town of around 1,300 inhabitants, situated in northern Iceland. It is the northernmost town on the mainland and is a five-hour drive from Reykjavik. It is a region of spectacular beauty! Our partner is running a project with the Icelandic Forestry Association and local organisations. Most of your work will involve forestry. However, part of the project involves collecting marine litter originating from North America and carried here by the Gulf Stream.
Forest conservation and beach clean-ups, workshops
This volunteer programme offers a wide variety of activities, particularly in the areas of forestry and forest conservation. You will help with forest management, particularly through tree planting. You will also take part in beach clean-ups. Indeed, a great deal of waste from North America is carried by the Gulf Stream and washes up on Iceland’s north coast.
Workshops on global warming
Your activities will depend on the weather. This camp is perfect for people who love working outdoors! You’ll take part in workshops on topics such as global warming and ways to prevent it. The aim is to develop environmental awareness together. This volunteering project is a great way to discover Iceland with other international volunteers and enjoy an unforgettable experience!
The work can be physically demanding. Working hours average 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
