Wildlife rescue and sanctuary volunteering
Eco-volontaire lists carefully selected volunteer projects at wildlife rescue centres, rehabilitation centres and sanctuaries around the world. They are run by local NGOs, associations or specialised volunteering agencies that we have vetted for their ethics and their real commitment to animal welfare.
What you can do:
– Latin America: care for rescued animals in sanctuaries in the Ecuadorian Amazon, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Guatemala.
– Africa: help at wildlife sanctuaries in Malawi and Zambia, or rehabilitate primates and reptiles in South Africa.
– Asia: support a wildlife rescue centre on Bangka Island, Indonesia.
– North America and Oceania: help injured and orphaned wildlife near Vancouver and in Ontario, care for sea turtles and Tasmanian devils in Australia, or volunteer at a sanctuary in Hawaii.
– Horse and farm animal sanctuaries: rescued horses in Canada, Spain and the United States, and a sanctuary farm in Chile.
Our approach: we favour sanctuaries whose goal is rehabilitation and, whenever possible, release into the wild. No petting, no selfies with animals, no breeding for tourism.
Who it’s for: most projects are open to volunteers aged 18 and over. Some welcome families and veterinary students. No scientific background is needed.
Languages: English on all projects, plus the local language and, for some projects, French.
How it works: contact the partner organisation directly through Eco-volontaire, free of charge. You book with them at their own price: using Eco-volontaire adds nothing to what you pay.
