Ring in 2027 with a unique holiday in Haute-Savoie, with friends or family, in a spectacular setting in the heart of the mountains. On the programme: snow crystals; wolf tracks; astronomy. See all our science-themed holidays here.
Snow crystals, wolves and astronomy
This special New Year’s holiday is centred around three scientific projects.
Snow crystals
Discover nivology, the science of snow: learn why it is slippery, how it changes and what risks it can pose. Using simple tools — scales, magnifying glasses and probes — observe snowflakes, measure the density of the snowpack and explore the phenomena of melting and avalanches.
You’ll also learn how to photograph and preserve snow crystals, using innovative techniques developed by Objectif Sciences International. A trip combining fun, science and winter sports, so you can have a great time whilst discovering the secrets of the mountains.
The wolf and the lynx
Follow in the footsteps of the wolf and the lynx, two large predators whose return is reshaping the balance of our mountains. This trip offers the chance to explore their impact on Alpine biodiversity by observing populations of red deer, roe deer and chamois.
With snowshoes on your feet, you’ll take part in a participatory research project aimed at surveying large wildlife and assessing the effects of the return of predators on ecosystems. The data collected will be cross-referenced with summer data to better understand changes in flora and fauna.
Finally, you’ll learn simple methods for monitoring biodiversity, accessible to everyone. Because the more of us who study it, the better we can protect it.
Astronomy
Set off on a journey of discovery to explore the stars and exoplanets – those fascinating worlds located far beyond our Solar System. Since the first exoplanet was discovered in 1995, thousands more have been identified, revealing the diversity of the Universe and the rarity of life.
During this trip, you will learn how to detect exoplanets using the transit method and contribute to the Exoplanet Transit Database research programme. Depending on the time of year, you will also observe the Sun, the Moon and the planets, whilst learning about astronomical observation techniques.
Discover the mountains in a whole new way through science!
- Take stunning photos of snowflakes, follow the tracks of wild animals and make the most of the snow-covered landscapes, whether on foot, on snowshoes or even on skis, whichever you prefer.
- Get the whole family involved and spark your curiosity: examine the snow through a magnifying glass, spot squirrel tracks or gaze up at the splendour of the starry sky.
- Share unique and enjoyable moments with the other participants on this trip, whether you’re a child, teenager, parent or grandparent. Here, the snow becomes a wonderful place for exploration, play and learning.
- On the programme: exciting science activities suitable for all — photographing snow crystals and an introduction to snow science, monitoring wildlife biodiversity, and learning about exoplanets.
- Snowball fights, skiing down the slopes, building igloos… a whirlwind of fun and new experiences!

French Alps
Nestled in the heart of the Alps, the village of Morillon embodies authentic mountain life. Blessed with plenty of sunshine, it offers an exceptional natural setting all year round. Surrounded by forests, hay meadows, mountain pastures and cliffs, the area is teeming with biodiversity: colourful alpine flora, majestic deer, agile ibex and, occasionally, the discreet tracks of the wolf. In winter, the study of snow reveals its full splendour through the observation of snow crystals and climatic phenomena.
Daily life there
- Participants — children, teenagers and adults — are divided into age groups where necessary. Families can take part in certain activities together whilst also enjoying some free time, so that everyone can enjoy their stay at their own pace.
- Every morning, depending on what takes your fancy, you can choose between skiing, snowshoeing or scientific discovery. After a picnic high up in the mountains, we’ll continue our explorations of snow crystals and biodiversity. Astronomy will light up the late afternoon and evening under the clear mountain sky.
- You’ll also learn how to find your way using maps, compasses and GPS, to gain a better understanding of the terrain and the natural world around you.
- If the weather turns cloudy, head to the chalet to watch the snowflakes fall and enjoy a hot chocolate. As soon as the sun comes out again, head outside for a spot of sledgeing, to build a snowman, or simply to enjoy the fresh air.
- Every evening, we’ll enjoy a convivial dinner before rounding off the day with a lively evening of fun and laughter.
