Gaining a better understanding of palaeobiodiversity

This trip offers an active immersion in scientific research, as part of a genuine citizen science initiative. By following specific paleontological protocols, participants help to contribute to the databases of the Alpes de Haute-Provence Geopark. Every observation made in the field helps to improve our understanding of palaeobiodiversity and the evolution of regional landscapes.
Open to everyone, whether you’re a beginner or an enthusiast, this experience offers the chance to discover how researchers work and to play a hands-on role in studying the local geological and fossil heritage.

Scientific exploration

Every morning, participants set off on walks to sites chosen for their geological and ecological interest. Accompanied by an expert, they observe landscapes shaped by time, search for fossils, identify local flora and fauna, and learn to interpret rock strata as records of the Earth’s history.

Culture, relaxation and sensory immersion

Afternoons alternate between cultural activities and downtime:
– Visits and meetings with local people in Montbrun-les-Bains, including craftspeople and naturalists
.– Hands-on workshops on fossil study, mapping or species identification
.– Time for relaxation, reading, a thermal bath or simply taking in the peaceful natural surroundings.

The days draw to a close with a cosy evening meal followed by themed evening activities: discussions on how the landscape has changed, tales from the Baronnies, or stargazing under a clear sky, far from any light pollution.
