Nature and environmental volunteering in Iceland
Eco-volontaire lists carefully selected volunteer projects in Iceland, run by local NGOs, associations or specialised volunteering agencies that we have vetted for their ethics and their real impact on biodiversity.
What you can do:
– Protect Iceland’s north coast and take part in beach clean-ups and climate workshops in the north-west.
– Help combat erosion in a UNESCO Global Geopark, one of the most beautiful regions of the island.
– Volunteer at Sólheimar, Iceland’s oldest eco-village, or on an organic farming project at a health and rehabilitation clinic.
– Join a 6-week multi-project trip around Iceland, combining several environmental projects and exploration.
– Spend the winter on a renovation project on the Reykjanes peninsula, with the chance to see the Northern Lights.
Who it’s for: most projects are open to volunteers aged 18 and over. A summer camp is available for teenagers aged 15 to 17. No scientific background is needed.
Languages: English, Icelandic.
How it works: contact the partner organisation directly through Eco-volontaire, free of charge. You book with them at their own price: using Eco-volontaire adds nothing to what you pay.
