Wildlife sanctuary in Tasmania

Our partner, Fronteering, will place you at a wildlife rescue centre in Tasmania, Australia. The centre cares for a variety of wild animals, including the famous Tasmanian devil, an endemic species that is currently endangered. Indeed, the Tasmanian devil population is declining rapidly! They are suffering from a disease transmitted through their saliva, which is spreading rapidly within their population.

The Tasmanian devil is endangered

Across Tasmania, efforts are being made to halt this disease and prevent the Tasmanian devil from going the way of its extinct cousin, the Tasmanian tiger. The aim of the centre where you will be based is to treat and release Tasmanian devils back into the wild. You will, however, have the opportunity to look after other wild animals, as the centre also provides care for other species such as eagles, kangaroos and quolls.

The role of volunteers in Tasmania

The centre where you will be based rescues wild animals, including the Tasmanian devil. As an eco-volunteer, you will be part of the team and help with the shelter’s day-to-day activities.
