A sanctuary farm that takes in abused animals

It is not just dogs and cats that are victims of abuse and neglect. A significant number of farm animals are also abused and go hungry. This wonderful volunteering project takes place at a farm sanctuary that has been caring for farm animals and pets in need since 2016. Across nine hectares of land, neglected and abused animals are given a new home.

160 animals from 15 different species

The animals receive care, treatment and a safe place to live. They are allowed to live out the rest of their lives at the farm sanctuary and are not available for adoption. The sanctuary has already taken in more than 160 animals of 15 different species. The farm, which takes in domestic animals, plays a significant role in educating the public about the welfare of farm animals and pets through social media.

If animal welfare and the importance of developing responsible farming practices are close to your heart, this eco-volunteering trip is ideal for you. You can help protect domestic and farm animals by getting involved in this project for animals in need. The aim is to help neglected and abused animals ‘get back on their feet’, regain their trust in humans and lead a dignified life. You’ll enjoy this volunteer placement if you love being surrounded by animals all day long. The work involved can, however, be difficult and demanding. Tasks must be carried out conscientiously and with care. The animals’ welfare is an absolute priority!

As a volunteer, you will be responsible for…:

  • Caring for animals
  • Feeding the animals
  • Make sure the animals always have enough water
  • Ensure that the stables and paddocks are kept clean
  • Building new pens and corrals
  • Improve/maintain existing facilities
  • Administering medication and/or accompanying the pet to the vet
  • Take part in fundraising campaigns
  • Public relations and educational outreach
  • Social media update

Please note: tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as the number of volunteers, the time of year, the season, the project’s current needs, and personal motivation. Not all volunteers will be able to be fully involved in all of these tasks.

Hot water is available in the houses.

Food

The programme includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. In keeping with the sanctuary farm’s mission, the food is plant-based. If you wish, you can buy additional items in the nearby town.
Smoking and alcohol are not permitted.

Location

Limache is a charming little town in central Chile. The well-known cities of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, on the Pacific coast, are both around 35 kilometres away. Limache has a population of around 40,000 and boasts a rural setting and a laid-back lifestyle. With its mountains, hills and valleys, the town is surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Limache’s public transport links provide quick access to Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Both towns are undoubtedly well worth a visit and make for ideal weekend getaways. Santiago is also easily accessible by public transport, and the journey takes around two hours. A trip into the city offers a fascinating contrast to life in the countryside.
