The Puma mission in Córdoba, Argentina
The NGO you are volunteering with is dedicated to protecting the environment. Its aim is to foster a sense of responsibility towards nature.
Its primary mission is to educate communities about the plight of the puma, which has become an endangered species in the Córdoba region and throughout Argentina. The NGO has set up projects to restore the flora and fauna in the puma’s natural habitat through education and research programmes.
The NGO’s ultimate aim is to restore the mountain range that has been affected by forest fires and destroyed by urbanisation. Restoration would enable endemic animal and plant species to be reintroduced.
The reserve takes in animals found in traps or that have fallen victim to the illegal trade in exotic animals. Most of them are released back into the wild, whilst the others remain at the reserve whilst they recover.
The role of eco-volunteers in Argentina
- Guiding visitors around the nature reserve, giving talks and running workshops. They will also need to explain the environmental issues affecting the region to them.
- To help monitor invasive alien species and manage seed banks for various native species
- Working to promote animal welfare (care, feeding, etc.)
- Take part in animal research by assisting the researchers and checking the cameras.
- Help maintain the site by looking after the footpaths, cleaning up and managing waste for recycling.

Accommodation:
Volunteers stay on site in shared rooms provided for them. Each room has five beds with mattresses; you will need to bring your own sleeping bag. Shared bathroom.
Required level of Spanish or English: intermediate.
You must be in good mental and physical health to take part:

The partner organisation
The partner organisation’s mission is to encourage participation in ethical and sustainable development projects. It connects NGOs, social welfare organisations and government bodies with volunteers. It promotes solidarity-based and participatory travel. The partner is a certified WYSE Travel Confederation Member. WYSE is a global non-profit organisation representing youth and student travel operators worldwide. It is also a member of the AFNOR commission for the development of the international standard on responsible tourism, a member of the international mobility committee, a certified Australia specialist, accredited by the international ICEF group, a member of the EAIE (European Centre of Expertise, Networking and Resources for the Internationalisation of Higher Education) and a member of the travel4impact Network.
