Wildlife conservation volunteering in South Africa
Eco-volontaire lists carefully selected volunteer projects across South Africa, from the bush near Kruger National Park to the coast. They are run by local NGOs, associations or specialised volunteering agencies that we have vetted for their ethics and their real impact on biodiversity.
What you can do:
– Study and protect endangered species such as rhinos, elephants and leopards at research camps in the South African bush.
– Help rehabilitate chacma baboons and vervet monkeys at pioneering primate sanctuaries.
– Teach environmental education to children from local villages at a bush school and wildlife orphanage near Kruger.
– Take part in shark conservation with scuba diving at a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
– Care for reptiles at a conservation centre, support a village community, or train as a professional nature guide in the bush.
Who it’s for: most projects are open to volunteers aged 18 and over. No scientific background is needed.
