Wild animals, especially the most emblematic ones such as elephants, giraffes and zebras, play a vital role in the country's economy. However, cohabitation between the population and wildlife is not always easy.
Human-animal cohabitation at the heart of the project
Many isolated communities live in close proximity to predators, leading to conflicts between man and wildlife. Faced with this recurring problem between the communities of certain villages and wild animals, numerous organizations have sprung up. Their aim is to regulate conflicts, notably by creating conservation zones. The conservation program in which you will be involved is located near Lake Nakuru, one of the lakes of the Rift Valley. As an eco-volunteer, you'll take part in the various conservation actions carried out by the team on site. You'll have the chance to admire the breathtaking scenery while observing the diverse fauna!

As a volunteer, you'll be involved in a wide range of activities, including monitoring the endangered Rothschild's giraffe. You will contribute to ongoing research efforts by collecting data on their behavior and habitat, to ensure their survival. Intercultural immersion
You will always be accompanied by a wildlife specialist during your work on the conservation site. These ecosystem conservation professionals will train you throughout your stay. You'll also learn a great deal about the problems of human-animal cohabitation, particularly through your interactions with the local population. You'll interact with the local community on the reserve and benefit from a cross-cultural experience...
Your schedule from Monday to Friday
You'll spend 4 to 5 hours in the reserve with the wildlife ranger, monitoring, surveying and tracking wildlife and assisting local staff as needed. Back at your accommodation, you'll have time to prepare your activities for the following day.

Accommodation and food
You'll stay in the volunteer house. All resources are to be used sparingly, especially electricity. There are occasional power cuts during the day. Water is always available. You will be provided with all basic necessities during your stay.
Meals are provided daily and rooms are cleaned at weekends, but you will also be expected to contribute to the tidiness and cleanliness of the accommodation. The volunteer house is located close to Green Steds International School and just a few minutes' walk from the southern entrance to Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is about 15 km from Nakuru town.
There are plenty of places to visit in your spare time. For example, you can visit Thompson Falls in Nyahururu, hike the Hyrax Hills, hike Menengai Crater, see the equator at Gwakung'u, visit Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Naivasha.
