Scientific project: the creation of a museum
Morocco's fossil wealth is incredibly diverse: dinosaurs, trilobites, various teeth and bones, sauropods, Spinosaurus, Mosasaurs, Elasmosaurs, crocodilians, Pterosaurs, but also crinoids, gastropods, bivalves, stromatolites, orthoceras, ammonites, sea urchins, whales, shrimps, fish, jellyfish and starfish.
Geologists and paleontologists
The project was born out of close encounters with specialists such as Ali Bajja, Nour Eddine Jalil and Abdelouahed Lagnaoui, who have forged strong ties around the promotion of Morocco's geological heritage. Since 2022, each expedition has brought together geologists, paleontologists, students and enthusiasts to explore, share and promote Morocco's fossil treasures.
Enabling Moroccan students to take part in excavations
The aims of the trip are twofold: to create mini paleontological museums in schools using local fossils, and to enable Moroccan schoolchildren to take part in field excavations. The expedition also aims to make new paleontological discoveries, with the long-term ambition of contributing to the creation of a national museum dedicated to Morocco's fossil treasures.
Searching for fossils in southern Morocco
This trip plunges you into the heart of southern Morocco, between Erfoud, Merzouga and the Atlas ridges, to discover the country's exceptional fossil heritage. You'll go prospecting at various sites, looking for a variety of fossils - trilobites, ammonites, dinosaur teeth and bones - while exploring spectacular landscapes.
Meeting with Moroccan scientists
You'll visit the workshops of craftsmen and fossil hunters, discovering their working techniques and their unique collections. The trip also includes meetings with Moroccan researchers and geologists, as well as outreach activities in local schools to introduce children to the paleontological riches of their region.
Discover Berber culture
Between two prospecting trips, you'll enjoy cultural experiences: immersion in Berber culture, a walk in the Sahara dunes, the traditional market of Rissani, discovery of ceramics and weaving, and tasting of local cuisine. Finally, there will be time for discussion and observation, to study the finds and understand their history, in a friendly and passionate atmosphere.
