Wild elephant conservation program

Founded over 23 years ago, the partner association is a pioneering organization that develops sustainable conservation programs involving local communities.

The project is not limited to animal observation: it aims to build a harmonious balance between the needs of local residents and the preservation of natural ecosystems, in particular for the protection of wild elephants.

Our partner offers volunteers the opportunity to actively participate in several aspects of the program :

  • Data collection on wild elephants and their habitat
  • Human-elephant conflict reduction projects
  • Reforestation and habitat restoration actions
  • Monitoring other local wild species

It's a truly immersive experience, far removed from mass tourism.

A typical day

Activities generally start early in the morning and late in the afternoon, the best times for wildlife observation. Days include fieldwork, data collection, educational workshops and sometimes free time to relax or explore the area.

Your main tasks:

  • Surveys and observations of wild elephants
  • Participation in safaris in Wasgamuwa National Park
  • Monitoring wildlife corridors and identifying environmental impacts
  • Community activities: local awareness, sustainable coexistence projects
