Sustainable development in an Amerindian village in Guyana
If you're looking for a cross-cultural experience with an indigenous Amazonian people, this program is for you! Our partner Fronteering will place you in a remote village in Guyana (this is not French Guiana :)) where you will help an indigenous community set up sustainable projects. These include construction work, wildlife research and ecotourism development. Today, local communities are unfortunately dependent on environmentally damaging activities such as logging and mining. The aim of this program is to help an Amerindian community preserve its way of life by developing an economy that does not destroy biodiversity.
In the Amazon region of Guyana
This project will take you to the heart of Guyana's Amazon jungle, where many indigenous communities are struggling to maintain a way of life in line with their values. Faced with increasing poaching and forest destruction, the inhabitants of Rewa decided to build an ecolodge to develop eco-tourism. This was back in 2005. Following a meeting with members of the Fronteering organization, the Amerindian community decided to call on volunteers to develop various projects: education, tourism...
